Thing 2: Thoughts about Web 2.0

The videos about Web 2.0 had a very true message. We are living in a world of connections that are rapidly changing. Technology is our students' future. They so desire to be equipped with the skills needed to use these mediums, perhaps because they can plainly see their relevance.

The "Did You Know 4.0" video is the descendent of the "Shift Happens" video that I saw a couple of years ago. I was amazed by the vastness of the Internet and the power that it holds for civilizations. It is also mind-blowing to consider how rapidly information and capabilities change. I feel that as teachers, we are slow to embrace this reality. We should be instilling in our students researching skills necessary to seek out the most recent information. We should give them mediums to publish products that will reach a global audience.

I can see a difference in my students when technology is incorporate in the lesson. They are on task; they are focused; and they are learning. Technology is an excellent means of differentiation and allows students to take responsibility for their learning. Once the rewards of technology use in the classroom are felt, these changes will be welcome by students and teachers alike.

  1. Very insightful post. We have got to get with the program and realize that we are equipping our kids for jobs that do not even exist-and technology will be at the heart of most of those careers.
