Thing 5: Getting Started with RSS
With technology putting so many resources at our fingertips, it is important that we teach students how to discern material's credibility and to instill a sense of ethical use of these resources. As we've learned, blogs allow any person to publish any position. This creates the need for students to have skills, such as cross-referencing and assessing bias, that will allow them to acknowledge the relevance and credibility of materials. Alan November addresses this need in his book. I found a post to his blog through the RSS feed that questions the ethics of a student's behavior. I like that the post presents the situation and allows readers to debate the behavior in the comments. As educators, we must consider to what extent a student is being a good steward of available resources and when it becomes cheating.

WOW! Impressive post. Anyone that quotes Alan November gets my attention. Our roles have changed so much with technology. Instead of spending so much time looking for information, we have to help teach students how to evaluate the information and weigh its relevance and credibility. Not an easy task with elementary students.
