Thing 7: Creating Community Through Commenting

I love to see that I have a comment on my blog and never fail to read it! However, these lone comments have been few and far between in the past. For this reason, I read 10 Techniques to Get More Comments on Your Blog. I was convicted by the first paragraph that reported that 90% of blog readers are lurkers. That's me! To get comments, I suppose that you have to give them. That is a change that I should implement in my blog reading.

Other suggestions from the article include making your blog posts open ended or controversial. If people feel strongly about the topic or feel that their input if welcome, they are more likely to contribute. Another suggestion was to interact with the comments left. Readers like to feel that their comments are acknowledged. This interaction also gives readers more to have an opinion about and more likely to comment. Commenting is a virtuous cycle!

  1. True for students also. We want them working with open-ended questions. And really, what better way to get them on-board...something controversial.

  2. I love the idea of controversy -- respectful disagreement, that is. It's far closer to what they'll need in the "real" world than a worksheet.

  3. I like the artwork in your blog template. It is a true reflection of you and has your name written all over it! I have made it to my Thing #7 and decided to subscribe to your blog. I hope this comment reaches you in good spirits.
